The reason is obvious.

This morning our time in China the Mi 10 series debuted. The European premiere of flagships was to take place next week in Barcelona. However, this will not happen …

The global primer Mi 10, which was to take place on February 23 in Spain, was canceled. All because of GSMA decision on cancellation of the fair MWC 2020. The reason is obvious – the threat of a Chinese epidemic coronavirus. Xiaomi also announced that it will soon plan a separate event that will take place in Europe and will also be the global inauguration of this year's flagships.

MWC Cancel

Chinese took similar steps OPPO. The company planned on February 22 the primer of the flagship model Find X2. As informed us Piotr Żaczko, PR Manager at Oppo Polska:

OPPO respects and understands GSMA's decision to cancel the MWC Barcelona 2020 event. After careful consideration, we also decided to postpone the OPPO Find X2 Global Launch Event, originally scheduled for February 22. The event will now be postponed to March and we will be providing additional information soon.

As you can see, the spreading coronavirus, which is a threat to health and life, has successfully thwarted the plans of technology giants. The MWC in Barcelona is the largest event in the mobile industry attracting over 100,000 participants every year. Canceling the event is a big blow to Barcelona. It is estimated that the fair generates a profit of EUR 492 million for the city and creates up to 14,000 temporary jobs.
