The material is made of carbon nanotubes, which were arranged vertically on an aluminum foil etched with chlorine. The most surprising thing about all of this is that scientists have discovered "blacker blacks" by accident. How did this happen?
Researchers experimented with these nanotubes on electrically conductive materials. Their main purpose was to increase the thermal and electrical properties of these pipes. As a result of several dozen attempts, something that surprised scientists was created. They only learned about the fact that they had created something previously unattainable when they examined the black light reflection coefficient.
Color by color, but the key question is – can the discovery be used in any practical way? It turns out that yes! Professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT, Brian Wardle, proposes to use the material in the optical shutters of space telescopes to reduce unwanted light reflection.
