Potential Monster Busters.
On the wave of popularity of the series The Witcher by Netflix, and probably also computer games by CD Projekt RED, in Poland was born seven Geralts. Parents decided to give this name as a middle name twelve times. Much or little? These values are slightly higher than those recorded in previous years. Geralt is of course the name of the popular witcher, unlike the name Wiedzimin, which is a rather joyful variation on the profession of a well-known monster slayer. Geralt is not the only Polish inspiration coming directly from the fantasy world.
According to the ministry's report, in 2019 in our country was born six girls named Cirilla and seven representatives of the fair sex who received such a name second. Definitely more popular in this context is the name Lara, used one hundred and seventy times. Is this inspiration with Tomb Raider movies and games? To some extent, definitely.
We checked, but no Triss, Yennefer, Renfri, Shani, or Zoltan, Radowid, Dikstra or Foltest were born in Poland.
I wonder what you think about naming children by the names of people from the world of pop culture. According to Polish law, the name should clearly specify the child's sex and not be offensive. Names like Geralt and Cirilla seem completely harmless, but maybe you perceive them as harmful?
