MyDrivers is reporting two new layouts from the Ampere family. I'm talking about the cards of Fr. GA103 and GA104, i.e. GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3070. The hardware specification of the more powerful card is on its knees. RTX 3080 will have 3840 CUDA cores, 60 SM blocks (Streaming Multiprocessors) and a 320-bit memory bus with the option of 10 or as much as 20 GB of GDDR6 memory. It would be the first card on the market with such a large amount of memory, with 20 GB of memory probably referring to the professional version of Quadro RTX 3000 using the same core.
The weaker of the systems, GeForce RTX 3070, would have 3072 CUDA cores and 48 SM blocks. The card shall use a 256-bit memory interface and 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. The secret is still the GA102 chip, which will go to GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.
If you believe the earlier rumors, the new generation of Nvidia graphics cards made in 7-nanometer lithography can bring a double increase in performance. This result will be even more impressive because the systems will be characterized by up to 50% higher energy efficiency than currently sold representatives of the RTX SUPER series.
The premiere of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 cards should take place in the second half of this year, and the first official information about new products will probably reach us on the occasion of the March GTC 2020.
