It's hard to believe.
Game History Angry Birds (known today as Angry Birds Classic) dates back to the beginning of 2009. Then, employees of the Finnish studio Rovio Entertainment, reviewing ideas for potential mobile games, decided to implement the idea of a senior game designer – Jaakko Iisalo, who created a picture showing clearly upset birds without visible legs or wings. At that time, it was not even known what kind of game would be born from this idea, but it was soon decided that the popular game would be the inspiration for the project Crush the Custlein which players are tasked to destroy the title castles with the help of missiles fired from the catapult. And where did the opponents of the famous birds come from? As there was an epidemic of swine flu in the world in 2009, the developers decided that these opponents would be green piglets.
Angry Birds was released on December 11, 2009, however, only on iOS. Initially, it wasn't very popular. Only when it appeared in the British App Store, which took place in February 2010, a real frenzy began for it. Then it quickly became the number 1 game on the platform, both in Great Britain and the United States. Production held the first place for 275 days.
Android users had to wait for access to Angry Birds until October 19, 2010. This was due to how many different devices supported Android. Ultimately, due to this problem during the premiere, almost 30 smartphones with this software were skipped, even several recent ones. A little later these smartphones received Angry Birds in the lite version. Angry Birds also appeared on devices with Windows Phone, but only in June 2011. Even later, after more than a year of intensive work, Angry Birds went to Facebook – in February 2012.
Angry Birds has been recognized by both critics for its own addictive gameplay, humor, and low price (only with time the game became free). This title gained such popularity that it was not only continued in the form of Angry Birds 2, but also spin-offs, in the classic form (for example, Angry Birds Star Wars, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Friends or Angry Birds Transformers) or such that take players to the world of AR (Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs) or VR (Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs). In fact, the series even received two films, the first of which debuted on May 2, 2016, and the second in September this year. You can't forget about the whole mountain of mascots, toys and other game-related items that have appeared in stores around the world.
Although the stores with mobile games constantly get new, original and interesting productions, I believe that games from the Angry Birds series will enjoy quite a good popularity for a long time. Who knows, maybe this popularity will persist for another decade.
