App Defense Alliance

It will be safer?

Google announced that under App Defense Alliance will work with external partners who are to provide better protection against fraudulent applications that may end up in the Android ecosystem.

The purpose of the alliance joined by companies ESET, Lookout and Zimperium, is to ensure the safety of Play Store users by identifying potentially harmful and unwanted applications before they are published.

As stated by Dave Kleidenmacher, head of Android security and privacy at Google, the cooperation will increase the protection of the Google Play ecosystem.

Security experts from ESET have been helping to identify even the most sophisticated threats targeting Android mobile devices for years. Recent statistics by Lukas Stefanko, a threat analyst at ESET, confirm the contribution of this antivirus manufacturer to the fight against mobile threats – only in September the expert detected over 170 malicious applications that had nearly 336 million installations.

In addition, it is worth recalling that less than 2 years ago ESET began supporting Google Chrome Cleanup – a browser function that alerts users to potential threats found on websites and allows them to be removed.
