Google Stadia is supposed to be more responsive than computers. Here goes my tank

The ability to stream games from the cloud or from one device to another is a really interesting concept. We could already test it even by Nvidia Shield or Steam Link. However, anyone who has dealt with this technology is well aware of its biggest disadvantage – frequent delays in games responding to player commands, i.e. low responsiveness. Will the same disadvantage apply to Google Stadia? The answer to this question was given by Madj Bakar, the main engineer working on the device.

In the interview conducted by Edge Magazine, in which Bakar took part, one of the topics raised was the topic of Google Stadia's responsiveness compared to the responsiveness of computers. To everyone's surprise Bakar stated that with time Google Stadia will provide more responsiveness than local gameplay.

"Ultimately, in a year or two we'll have games that will run faster and respond better to commands in the cloud than locally. No matter how powerful the local equipment will be. ", stated the engineer.


Well, before we can make fun of this statement, it's worth learning how to do this. Well, something that Bakar has described as helping to reduce delays at Google Stadia "Negative latency". We are talking about a specific data buffer to be created with the help of artificial intelligence algorithms and thanks "Power of the cloud" – The power that Google thinks local computers are not supposed to have. In practice, this means that the system will, for example, preventively increase the number of frames per second or predict what buttons the player will press. If the player does as expected, the platform should be able to react faster.

It should be noted that the buffer will not function from the date of the Google Stadia premiere, which is to take place in Europe in the USA and some European countries (it is not known when the system will go to Poland). A system to reduce delays is to be developed during the year, up to two. So as you can see even Google is not sure when the solution will be ready.


In your place, we would not be prepared for Google to fulfill its announcements. For now, the company makes unproven promises, especially since it does not explain how its technology intends to predict the movements of players, which if artificial intelligence predicts badly, what its accuracy is to be, or how the function would work in individual games. In addition, since the system has not yet been created, the company did not even have the opportunity to test it. Well, not that these are the only problems of the platform.

Of course, we hope that Google Stadia will not disappoint the players and will indeed have the possibilities guaranteed by the developers. Over time, we will see if it is a product worthy of attention and money from consumers.
